National Archaeology Day this year is on Saturday, October 19th and the San Diego County Archaeological Society (SDCAS) will be celebrating that and California’s Archaeology Month at Arch in the Park. As always, our goal is to educate the public about what archaeology is, and to provide information on various aspects of archaeology, including career and volunteer opportunities.

Be there to meet Running Grunion, a Kumeyaay Indian, and learn about his people @11:00 AM

 

WHERE:  At the Los Peñasquitos Ranch House

Take Black Mountain Road to the Canyonside Park Driveway, just north of Mercy Road in Rancho Penasquitos. Drive west past the ball fields and parking lots, following the signs to the Ranch House. Access is on the dirt road, through the white wooden gate (open during visiting hours). Parking is located next to the large barn. The adobe structure is south of the barn.


This is a FREE event for the whole family

The San Diego County Archaeological Society presents an educational day of Archaeology and Fun at the Ranch House in Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve

  • Find out what archaeology is all about; dig in a mock excavation; play games

  • Discover the history of the Ranch House on a tour of the adobe, see archaeology exhibits and excavation.
  • Make your own stone tools, baskets, pottery, beads, and more!

 

Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy in the shade.

Fry bread, snacks, and sodas will be available for purchase.
